New Author Blog Hop + Giveaway: My Pick for Favourite Y.A. Fantasy Debut 2011

Welcome to the New Author Blog Hop! The hop is co-hosted by Of Thoughts and Words & Oh! For the Love of Books. There are 48 authors and bloggers signed up to this event so make sure to check out all the other participants once you finish reading this post. (Click on the picture above to be taken to the list)

Hmm...so should I use this as an opportunity to tell you all I plan on becoming a new author next year? No matter how small it is I want to share the crazy stories running through my head with the world. They are in fact quite crazy, and kind of silly actually. But I love them. I joined She Writes earlier this month so if you're an author hopping through I would love some pointers on how to navigate that community and get in touch with other authors who want to support each other. Leave me a comment below. I'd greatly appreciate it!

Now for the good stuff. Here are the rules to the hop so you know what's going on:

Have you recently published a book? Do you know a first time author recently published? It's tough these days getting our stories and books out there. This hop/giveaway helps to support first time authors whether published traditionally or self-published in getting their books noticed and read by the reading community. Let's support one another! Find and support new authors and their debut publications!
For authors: Provide details/summary of your book, places where your book can be purchased, review(s) etc. Giveaway is not mandatory but is highly encouraged. J
For book lovers: If you have read a debut novel and loved it, help the author by sharing it with us. Write a substantial review and where the book can be found. A book giveaway is not mandatory but again, it is highly encouraged. Nothing draws a big crowd like a fun book giveaway! J

I'm participating in this event as a reader and showing off one of my favourite debuts. I read in so many genres that it was incredibly hard to choose just one book so I want to give a quick shout out to these amazing books and authors: Divergent by Veronica Roth (YA Dystopia), Forgotten by Cat Patrick (YA Supernatural Mystery Thriller), My Pictures, My Words by Mac Kenney (Poetry & Photography), Airmail by Naomi Bulger (Adult Magical Realism), and Jeremy Chikalto and the Hazy Souls by T.S. DeBrosse (YA Science Fiction). Yes, that's a lot of Y.A. debuts. Go check them out (wait..wait...read the rest of the post first!).

It was interesting trying to come up with a list of books I've loved from new authors. It's like, every time I discover something new to myself I sometimes forget that it's not new to the rest of the world. I wanted to treat so many authors as if they were debuts when they weren't. I've read a lot of young adult this year and my favourites reflect that.

Now for the author I am showcasing (unbeknownst to her...she'll find out soon...ha ha!):

I've decided to tell you about Rhiannon Paille who is the author of Flame of Surrender: The Ferryman and the Flame. I had the opportunity to interview Rhiannon and review her book for my other blog and now it's your turn to learn all about her :)

Why I love Rhiannon:

Rhiannon is not only an author, she's also blogger (and reviews books too!) and comes across in her online communication as a very down to earth sort of person. Well, as down to earth as a psychic who writes about her own little fantasy world can be. I love everything she has to say on her blog. She gives great advice to authors and bloggers. It's also just real fun to see her progression as an author and get to read about some of her daily activities. Not only that but at the end of Flame of Surrender she has the most beautifully written author bio I've seen to date.

Why I love Flame of Surrender:

It has a world I want to live in! Yep, no matter how dark and dooming the story got I still wanted to live there. Not only that it has flames and ferrymen. And characters that swim with mermaids, talk to trees, sprout flowers at there feet, and have visions about what their love for each other will cost the world. What's not to like?

Official Summary and book cover:

The boy who follows death meets the girl who could cause the apocalypse.

Krishani thinks he’s doomed until he meets Kaliel, the one girl on the island of Avristar who isn’t afraid of him. She’s unlike the other girls, she swims with merfolk, talks to trees and blooms flowers with her touch. What he doesn’t know is that she’s a flame, one of nine individually hand crafted weapons, hidden in the body of a seemingly harmless girl.

Nobody has fallen in love with a flame until now. She becomes Krishani’s refuge from the dreams of death and the weather abilities he can’t control. Striking down thousand year old trees with lightning isn’t something he tries to do, it just happens. When the Ferryman dies, Krishani knows that he’s the next and that a lifetime of following death is his destiny.

And Kaliel can’t come with him. The Valtanyana are hunting the flames, the safest place for her is Avristar. Krishani can’t bear to leave her, and one innocent mistake grants the Valtanyana access to their mystical island. They’re coming for Kaliel, and they won’t stop until every last living creature on Avristar is dead. She has to choose, hide, face them, or awaken the flame and potentially destroy herself.

Giveaway:

I'm giving away one Kindle copy of Flame of Surrender to one lucky reader*. Just leave a comment below with a way to contact you and you're entered into the giveaway. Giveaway will end November 30, 2011 at 11:59 PM. Must be 13 or older to participate.

*I may choose to send a $5.00 eGift Cart to Amazon.com instead of book in case Amazon will not allow the book to be sent your country.
