With the perennial popularity of classic writers like Charlotte Bronte and Lewis Carroll, Baby Lit is a fashionable way to introduce your toddler to the world of classic literature. With clever, simple text by Jennifer Adams, paired with stylish design and illustrations by Sugar's Alison Oliver, Little Miss Bronte and Little Master Carroll are a must for every savvy parent's nursery library.

What a brilliant idea to take the classics and turn them into board books for the very young. Not only does the child get a little taste of classic literature from an extremely young age, it's also a great way for parents to reminisce about their favourite stories.
I had the opportunity to read Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol last year so the story was still fresh in my head. I really appreciated all the little details the artist put into this book. The words are very simple. For example, the second set of pages has the words "black shoes". On this page is Alice's legs and feet sticking out of the rabbit hole. Of course, as a parent I could use this page to teach my child what a black shoe is. On the other hand I can also take this as an opportunity to teach little pieces of the story and that adds a whole other aspect to the book, especially when little baby turns into a toddler and already knows all about colours and shoes.
I loved the different aspects of the story that the author decided to include. Some of them were unexpected and some of them were obvious. The fact that it is not just a very simplified version of the story, but a colours primer makes it that much more special.
A very quirky and fun book. If my daughter wasn't already too old for board books, she would love it. In fact, she did claim it as her own at one point and made me read it to her a few times, anyways.
